Let's Talk About Rx
I know there have been some discussions and this is the stance that the coaches and I have on Rx.
We do not care if there is an “Rx” on the board next to your name. What we do care about is the effort you put in to get your score - an Rx effort - that is what we care about.
Let’s talk for a second about the definition of Rx. It means “as prescribed” or that you did the workout EXACTLY as it’s written on the board. It means you achieved the desired stimulus, in the desired timeframe, at the weights recommended. For some people it takes years but I promise you that you will Rx workouts here. You don’t know when it will happen, but with consistency IT WILL HAPPEN.
Every single coach here would rather you achieve the desired stimulus than do it exactly as it’s written. (Stimulus = hitting the goal with good, full range of motion) It’s not that we don’t care about the weights, we care more about how hard you work, and that is something unique to you.
And the people who did do the workout Rx, they worked their asses off to get there. It doesn’t just happen.
Everybody modifies. The “best” people in the gym modify regularly because it means they can come in consistently without injury. A modified score is still important to log. Scores are personal but you should keep them because it helps you measure. It helps hold you accountable to a standard. A smiley face doesn’t count because if the workout is repeated you don’t know how you did.
Too many people care too much about the little mark after their name on the whiteboard. I’m going to give you some perspective… it’s going to be erased in a couple days. What isn’t erased though, is your effort and integrity. And every workout is a new opportunity to showcase that.
Sincerely,
The Method Coaching Staff
